A new comment from Ana Cohan

Its that time again, Lent, where many of us grew up with the idea of giving something up for these 40 days until Easter. Many of us from the church come from different faith backgrounds and some people have told me that they don’t understand it, or its a Catholic thing. Pastor Becky preached last year that Lent is a time of spiritual contemplation and giving something up for Lent is a manner of fasting. Are any of you giving up something for Lent? If so, what and why?

  1. Giving up something for Lent is an idea that many Christians contemplate. I have heard that choosing to give up something symbolically shows that you are following the way in which Jesus fasted for 40 days at the beginning of his ministry and was tempted by Satan at his weakest moment. Also, in many faith traditions, fasting is often seen as a means to gain a clear focus on the spiritual. Fasting, the giving up of eating food, is not the only way to prepare for Lent. So, did you decide to give up something for Lent? If so, what?
